Live viewers see everything you mark Broadcast. Your recording file contains everything you mark Record. The big preview in the middle of this page shows exactly what both will look like.
Start a live broadcast
- When your browser asks, allow access to your camera and microphone.
- Click Sources in the bottom bar. Click the Broadcast button next to the camera you want to show, or next to Screen capture — for screen capture, pick the screen or window in the dialog that appears.
- Click the Use button next to the microphone you want viewers to hear.
- Tell your audience to open the viewer page — they can watch on any computer or phone, nothing to install.
To stop showing a source, click its Broadcast button again (it turns green while active). Anything that is live but not being recorded also appears in the strip across the top.
Record the webcast
- In the Sources menu, click Record for every source you want in the file.
- Click Record in the bottom bar. When you are done, click Stop recording.
- Choose Save on computer (downloads the file), Upload (stores it on this server, where it appears under Recordings in the ☰ menu), or Both. Leave “automatically fix audio” ticked to even out the volume of uploaded recordings.
The big preview is exactly what the recording will contain. When two or more pictures are tiled, the thin divider between the main and side pictures can be dragged left and right to set how wide the main picture is. You can switch to another app or share a fullscreen program — the recording keeps running.
The Sources menu
- Video sources — each camera and the screen capture have Broadcast and Record buttons that turn green while active. Record also switches on Broadcast automatically. Clicking the button for the mode that is already active turns the source off.
- Audio sources — click Use on each microphone you want. You can select several; they are mixed together and used for both the live broadcast and the recording.
- Remote sources — presenters on the contributor page appear here while they are sharing. Click Broadcast and/or Record to put them on the stream, or Fullscreen to view one full screen (it works while a recording is running; Esc exits). An orange dot on the Sources button means a new one just arrived.
Remote presenters (contributors)
A presenter opens the contributor page (there is a Contributor page link in the ☰ menu in the bottom bar) and shares their camera or screen, or uploads a PowerPoint/PDF deck to present as slides. Their sources then appear under Remote Sources in the Sources menu — click Broadcast to put them live and/or Record to include them in the file.
Handing over the host
If someone else opens the host page, a golden area appears at the top of their page with a Request takeover button — nothing happens until they press it. When they do, you get a golden banner: Accept & Transfer makes them the host, Decline keeps you as host. (If your page is closed while a request is pending, the other person becomes host automatically.)
Every host and viewer signs in with a display name (at least 2 characters). The names appear in the golden area on both ends of a takeover request — so you always know who is on the other end — and in chat.
If you are the one requesting, your golden area shows the wait once your request is queued — and if you are signed in with the admin password it also has a Force takeover button that makes you host immediately, without the current host's approval.
Good to know
- Ctrl+Esc (Mac: ⌘+Esc) stops the screen capture at any time — a hint appears in the bottom bar while you are sharing.
- Use Chrome or Edge for the host page; Safari is not supported.
